A handwritten receipt on a printed form made out by George A. Chafee to Mrs. Richard Alsop. Chafee was a dealer in oysters, wines, liquors and cigars; his store was in Middletown, Connecticut. Mrs. Alsop made six purchases at Chafee's store between July 6 and August 12. Each time she bought a dozen bottles of lager, each dozen costing 75 cents. The form contains a comic with a stout gentleman explaining he gets his beer at Chafee's. The stick figure-like gentleman he is conversing with explains that he does not drink any.
